OASFiS consists of science fiction fans from all over the central Florida area and beyond.
We have had members in Orlando, Daytona, Titusville, Connecticut, Washington, and
even on the road with the circus! Formed in the 1980’s and incorporated in the State of
Florida as a not-for-profit organization in 1987, many of the founding members were
involved with MagiCon, the 1992 WorldCon, held in Orlando. The main goal of OASFiS is the promotion and enjoyment of science fiction in all its
forms.Meetings are held at 1:30 PM on the second Sunday of every month. The meetings will be in
one of the third floor meeting rooms of the Orange County Public Library in downtown Orlando.
Everyone is welcome to attend and join us for dinner afterward at a local restaurant.OASFiS has run an annual convention, OASIS, in May since 1988. Because there were
no other science fiction conventions in central Florida during that time of year, it was an
“oasis in the desert” for SF fans. (Click here for a list of past, present, and future
conventions, their dates and guests) For information on our upcoming convention, see
OASIS.We provide for the Andre Norton Scholarship at Valencia Community College with a
charity auction at our convention. We have also funded the Nearlink program for a school
class and shipped SF books to needy Russian fans.Interested in finding out more about us? Review our bylaws, or email one of our officers.
